The honest answer is: once a year, every year. That’s the recommendation from virtually every boiler manufacturer, and it’s what our engineers advise too.
We understand that when a boiler seems to be working fine, spending money on a service can feel unnecessary. But annual servicing is one of those things that genuinely pays for itself over time.
What happens during a boiler service?
A service isn’t just a quick visual check. Our engineers work through a systematic inspection of all the key components, including:
- Checking the heat exchanger for cracks or corrosion
- Inspecting the burner and cleaning it if needed
- Checking gas pressure and flow
- Testing the flue for safe discharge of combustion gases
- Checking all safety devices are working correctly
- Inspecting seals, gaskets and internal components for wear
The engineer will flag anything that looks like it could be a problem and advise you on what, if anything, needs attention.
Why it matters for your warranty
Most boiler manufacturers, including Worcester Bosch, require annual servicing to keep extended warranties valid. If you skip a year and then make a warranty claim, the manufacturer may refuse it. It’s worth checking your paperwork.
The safety angle
Gas boilers produce carbon monoxide as a byproduct of combustion. A well-maintained, properly sealed boiler expels this safely through the flue. A boiler with a cracked heat exchanger or a poorly fitted flue can allow carbon monoxide to escape into the home. A service catches these risks before they become dangerous.
When is the best time to book?
Autumn is ideal, before the heating goes on properly for winter. That said, any time of year is better than not at all. Our team services boilers throughout Birmingham and Solihull all year round. Give us a call to get yours booked in.
